What it is

The leatherback is the world's largest sea turtle and the only species without a hard shell.

Where it occurs

Circumglobal — Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans

Habitat: Open ocean; nests on tropical and subtropical beaches

Interesting fact

Leatherback hatchlings are approximately 6 cm long at birth. It may take 15–25 years for them to reach sexual maturity.
