Leatherback hatchlings emerge from nests at night and instinctively head toward the brightest horizon — the ocean. Very few survive to adulthood.

Interesting fact
Leatherback hatchlings are approximately 6 cm long at birth. It may take 15–25 years for them to reach sexual maturity.
