Deep-Sea Research & Climate Science

The Howth Seabin Initiative
Rowan Byrne initiated the installation of a Seabin in Howth Harbour, County Dublin — a practical, community-focused project designed to intercept plastic pollution before it reaches the wider marine environment.
The Howth Harbour Seabin project is a documented example of translating marine science knowledge into direct environmental action: identifying a local pollution problem, engaging the community and harbour authority, and implementing a practical, measurable solution.
The project attracted national media coverage, including RTÉ Radio 1, and demonstrated how marine scientists can drive positive environmental change at a community level.
Conservation
Conservation has remained central to Rowan Byrne's career across more than three decades.
