Biography

A career shaped by the sea

Rowan Byrne's work brings together marine biology, ecology, conservation, environmental assessment, photography and public communication. His field experience spans more than 22 countries and a wide range of marine environments, from tropical coral reefs and sea turtle nesting beaches to temperate coasts, harbours and offshore waters.

His work has included marine and freshwater ecology, biodiversity assessment, sea turtle conservation, marine plastics and microplastics research, offshore wind environmental impact assessment, marine net gain and nature-inclusive design. Alongside professional practice, Rowan documents marine life and fieldwork through original photography and film.
